Market research data demonstrates how South Korean cosmetics drive expansion across international retail and e-commerce markets.

South Korean beauty cosmetics, also known as K-Beauty, has experienced strong growth in the global beauty market as value sales increased by 53% year-over-year and 131% over two years, according to a 2026 report by market research firm Nielsen IQ (NIQ).

The K-Beauty Goes Global report explores how K-Beauty impacts consumer expectations, innovation cycles, and competitive dynamics in the global beauty market.

The rise in K-Beauty also demonstrates how the global beauty industry is driven by regional trends, an insight brands should take into account to understand as they scale.

“K-Beauty has moved beyond trend status to become one of the clearest examples of how regional beauty innovation can translate into global growth,” said Tara James Taylor, SVP, Global Beauty Personal Care Vertical of NIQ, in a July 15, 2026 press statement.

K-Beauty value sales increased 53% year-over-year and 131% over two years, according to NielsenIQ's 2026 K-Beauty Goes Global report. The firm cites Korean innovation cycles, ingredient-led product development, and faster discovery-to-purchase commerce models as the primary drivers of this growth.

TikTok Shop data shows K-Beauty searches grew 125% in the United Kingdom, while sales value for K-Beauty brands on the platform rose 430% year-on-year across the UK, United States, Spain, and Germany, signaling social commerce as a major discovery channel.

Western Europe saw 58% year-over-year K-Beauty value growth, with Korean brands reaching 15–20% of online skincare sales in Italy, Spain, and France. Asia-Pacific grew 27%, Brazil and Mexico rose 135%. Canada's e-commerce sales also hit $164 million, up 57%.

K-Beauty's global rise is tied to formats like sheet masks, acne patches, essences, serums, and ampoules, alongside ingredient-led innovations such as snail mucin, centella asiatica, and PDRN — a DNA fragment extracted from salmon — which have moved from niche routines into mainstream use.

NielsenIQ's Tara James Taylor says K-Beauty's next phase includes expansion into adjacent categories like wellness and haircare, alongside scaling further across high-growth regions such as Latin America and the Middle East, building on its existing sales momentum.
