Trade and Industry Department Highlights Philippines’ Booming Healthcare BPO Industry, Lures More Investors

The event supports DTI-PTIC’s core mission of positioning the country as a competitive and reliable hub for high-value business process outsourcing services.

The Department of Trade and Industry-Philippine Trade and Investment Center (DTI-PTIC) in New York City reinforced its commitment to foster a world-class BPO landscape, as it encouraged more investors to consider the Philippines for their business-processing requirements, particularly in the healthcare sector.

During the forum titled “Bridging Filipino-American Businesses and the Philippine Healthcare BPO,” which brought together over 45 participants—including Filipino-American owners and managers of U.S.-based home health agencies—Trade Commissioner Benedict Uy reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to continuously enhancing its BPO industry. He highlighted key measures such as the Data Privacy Act, which aligns with global standards, and the CREATE MORE Law, which provides fiscal incentives for investors.

Uy emphasized the growing relevance of Philippine Healthcare Information Management Services (HIMS) for the US market. Aside from being more cost-effective, he explained that it also helps streamline operations, maintain compliance, and improve service delivery.

He highlighted its steady growth, as Filipino exhibitors in the recent 2025 HIMSS Global Health Conference in Las Vegas successfully secured $79 million in new deals.

Guest speaker John Duenas—a certified healthcare BPO professional and former Executive Director of the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines—enriched the discussion by expounding on the values the sector offers, such as the ability to resolve various operational pain points in the US healthcare processes, including billing documentation, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency.

During the open forum, questions on topics such as financial savings, payment schemes, taxation, and liability insurance were raised, signaling a strong interest in the Philippines as a healthcare BPO location.

The Philippine IT and BPO sector currently earns around $38 billion annually and employs 1.8 million Filipinos. HIMS is the fastest growing segment, valued at over $ 4 billion with a 9% annual growth rate and supported by more than 400 specialized firms.
