A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 rocked Sarangani and surrounding provinces in the southern Philippines on June 8, 2026. 

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) warned of a tsunami in the coasts of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, Tawi-tawi, Sulu, Basilan, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Sultan Kudarat, and South Cotabato provinces. It also warned of aftershocks in the epicentral area that may persist for several days to weeks. Some may be felt in nearby provinces.

At least 35 people have been reported dead and over 200 others injured as of the night of June 8.
